The People part of People, Postgres, Data
A couple of weeks ago we had the first of what we hope will be recurring community meetings. This meeting as well as the upcoming meeting on the 17th is primarily about lifting leaders of People, Postgres, Data and supporting them in building the foundations of the future for the coming conference. One of the particularly important moments was the groups acknowledgement of the importance of connection and especially new community members feeling welcome and included.
What was decided
Yurii Rashkovskii has volunteered to be part of the Professional Development and Wellbeing track including organizing a jogging community during the conference.
David Stokes has volunteered to organize the Defiant Opposition group. Aka, the anti/can’t jog group or in other words, “Let’s meet for coffee instead”.
There will be multiple rounds of the CFP with final approvals being decided on February 7th. This was decided due to the enormous number of presentations that have already been received. We can not stress enough the importance of submitting your talk sooner than later.
What is being worked on
With connection and well being becoming a corner stone of our community we are looking into having multiple accessory benefits to make the experience at the conference a holistic success including:
Chair based Masseuses
Yoga track in the morning
A nursing mother area
For newcomers we are also considering something mentioned at the PASS Data community summit, Speed Dating. No not literally but having some multiple time attendees and some newcomers who for 5 minutes meet, share experiences and make a connection. The writer of this newsletter started sweating just thinking about it but even those most introverted on the call thought it was a good idea. Imagine if for only 5 minutes of stammering, you made a lifetime of connection?
The party
There is no doubt that one of the most important connection making opportunities is the evening reception. As always there will be a party and yes we will have activities to bring people together over a water, and glass of wine/beer or soda. In the spirit of our location we also want to have it be family friendly. The current idea is that the reception will run from 6:00PM - 8:30PM. From 6:00 - 7:00 will family friendly including games. There will be no alcohol served at this time. From 7:00 - 8:30 will be the traditional cocktail/networking reception.
You do not have to be a multiple time attendee or participant to join the community meetings. We want fresh faces, fresh ideas and people who have a desire to bring people together and build a every strengthening community. The next meeting is on December 17th, join us.
